Creating you own Board Game

Task:  You will make a board game based on something you are interested in. I will give you a game board which you will remaster into your own. Recreate the game, mix games, or turn it into a speciality edition. The game board could be Risk, Monopoly, Scrabble, Clue, Operation, Sorry, Candyland, etc... You will be given one game board per group. It will be a random draw for your game. If you need a 2nd board or game please ask Mr. Sheppard and we can arrange things. You could base your game on sports, books, math, science, your favourite TV show or movie, etc... The possibilities are endless.

You can take from other games and mix it together. Make new questions, game board, cards, and playing pieces if it adds to your game. You can work in groups of 2-3.  No single member groups, I don't have enough board games for single groups. This is part one of a two part project. make sure to pick people you can work with for back to back projects. List of Games

Ticker Tuesday/ Thrusday

A ticker is a telegraphic or electronic machine that prints out data on a strip of paper. This used mainly for stock market information or news reports. This will be a on going assignment until the end of the year.

You will pick 3 stocks to watch for the next 3 months. Every Tuesday and Thursday you will be recording data. You have $10,000 (fictional money) to split any way you choose. You must pick at least one blue chip stock (eg. Disney, Walmart, visa etc...) and one up in coming stock. The 3rd stock can be whatever.  During the next 3 months their will be a 2 "Wolf of Wall street" Wednesdays where I will tell you to trade in your highest grossing stock for something different.

Record the following in a word table- table recorded in table. today's rate, % of change +/-, investment $ =/-, amount of stock running total. If you have had enough of doing your own calculations, you can convert to excel and set up formulas. At the end, you will need to submit a report with graphs and if they made money or lost money.

Flash Story

“If I waited till I felt like writing, I’d never write at all.” (Anne Tylor) writing is a great way to express inner creativity. This project will let you express yourself in a way that you may have not known you had. Writing can be a way to relieve stress and also make you money if you’re good enough. JK Rowling was poor until she sold the 1st harry potter book which then she is now worth millions of dollars. Writing is a live long skill that can be adapted and built. Being an author can be a background job until you sell a best-selling novel and can retire.

Flash fiction is a great place to start your storytelling. Flash fiction is a type of storytelling that is told in 300-1000 words. This will be a fiction story which means you have to use your creative minds to create an epic tale. The extremely hard part of flash is that you have to tell a story within the word count. You will need to make your story at least 600 (minim) and not exceed 1000 (maxim). This will help you learn how to edit your work down to just important facts. Some people will find it’s a challenge not to go over the word count. Others will have problems making the minim.

Your story will be marked on 4 things. The first is creativity and how creative you can be with your writing. Editing, grammar, and spelling are all important in this project and will be a part of your mark. You will have to hand in 2 drafts that were edited by other people. Productivity will be 20% of this project. If I see you on you tube, on your cell phone, or any other things that are not working on your project I will take marks off this part of the project. The last part is completion mark.
This should be doable in class time.  If needed you will have to finish this at home. The due date is March 12th 2016. This is a firm do date. If you are sick this is not real excuse as this can be done on a computer at home and submitted online. There is no plagiarism. If a paper is turned in with anything being coped and pasted from the internet the story will receive a zero. When done it can be posted to the block and a edited copies can be handed in to Mr. Sheppard.
